Chaser: A Novel

I read all the bad reviews on this book so i was not looking forward to getting this book. I only ordered it because I have every other book Miasha has written. I LIKED THIS BOOK! It was a real page turner for me. I wish it was not so short (like all Miasha's books) but I am going against the grain and I would recommend this book. It was really good :)

"Chaser" by Miasha, was a great read in my opinion. I have read all her books (except one) and enjoyed them all. In this novel we meet Leah Baker, a young woman involved in a crazy relationship with a hustler named Kenny. Kenny is abusive and uses Leah to assist him in scams, most which are illegal. Leah puts up with Kenny because he is her sole means of financial support, but the love is long gone. Once Leah ends up in trouble with the law (because of Kenny)she has to do some things that can put her life in danger, but keep her out of jail. Nasir is a friend of Kenny's, Nasir's dad, Vic, owns a towing and body shop and Nasir drives or "chases" auto wrecks for a phat check. Nasir usually finds himself involved in Kenny's numerous schemes. However Nasir is getting fed up with having to deal with Kenny, but he fears telling Kenny no because he is in debt to Kenny. Kenny convinces Leah to get a job at Vic's shop, so Leah can "wash" the checks, cleansing his "illegal" money. Leah and Kenny eventually start having feelings for each other and thats when the drama really starts!!!

Flashing lights, blinding diamonds, unlimited cash flow and a mini mansion are all the things that make Leah fall in love with the security that Kenny seems to bestow upon her. Tired of living her life in the projects, with her mother in a cramped apartment, Leah sets her hooks into a hustler named Kenny, only to go on a ride for her life. Chaser by Miasha takes you on a wild adventure as you watch Leah fall victim to Kenny's schemes over and over again. When will she wake up and realize this is not love? But she is dependent on him in more ways than one, and is willing to take the fall so that she can remain in the lifestyle that she feels is befitting of her. Nasir was a close friend of Kenny's until Kenny blackmailed him with some dark secrets from the past. Nasir was always in love with Leah but chose to let Kenny have her in return for his secret to remain just that, a secret. What happens when their paths cross? It is fate and no man can stop the true power of love, even when you are falling for what appears to be a scam artist. Action-packed from beginning to end you will constantly question Leah's logic, ask what is wrong with Kenny and does he think he can torment and torture people and get away with it? What will become of Nasir and Leah? Wire taps, drug deals gone wrong, car crashes, gun play, blood and gore are all part of this fast-paced novel that will have you wanting more. In Philadelphia, Leah Baker lives with hood Kenny Courtland, who runs the local drug trade and various other schemes. She loves Kenny, but does not like the way he is always looking for a scheme to make money. His latest scam involves a car accident to con an insurance company. He arranges to fake a crash with Leah pretending she was the driver while he and another couple are passengers. The cops come and arrest the four because they happened to be staking out the location that Kenny picked and witnessed the event. The police free Kenny and the other couple after they blame Leah. She realizes her boyfriend left her to take the fall. Detective Daily offers her a deal in which her record will remain clean if she betrays Kenny like he did her. She calls Kenny from jail and tells him the cops want her to be a snitch on Alliance Collision owner Vic. Kenny detests Vic who fired him when he worked for the man, but arranges through the man's son his homie Nasir who owes a major debt to him to get Leah a job at his dad's garage. Soon after she is employed, Leah and Nasir begin to fall in love, but an affair could prove as dangerous as being a snitch trying to hang Kenny. CHASER is a fast-paced street romantic suspense starring a young woman who learns the hard way what matters in life. The cast drives the story line especially the lead triangle though the support players are fully developed too. Fans who relish a different kind of contemporary romance will want to read Leah's tale of struggling to survive the mean streets of Philadelphia. Harriet Klausner

I really loved this book! It's a story about being a chaser. Leah is in a relationship with Kenny who is a crook basically. He treats her like she's crap. He always has a scheme going. Then there is Nasir. He's Kenny's friend and he's basically in love with Leah. There are alot of trials and tribulations throughout the book but, it is truly a page turner and worth the read. I read the book in one day. I would have liked to see more happen at the end but, I was truly pleased with this book. I will tell you that Kenny is a real trip,and Leah is really passive. She soon realizes that she's needs a backbone and has to depend on herself and not a man all the time. I think that Miasha really did her thing with this one.
