My Introduction to the Yorgason's Story-Telling Dynasty

This was the first book I ever read by either Blaine or Brenton Yorgason. I've since avidly read a dozen of their books (with more than 40 total), and found them to be very engrossing, frequently entertaining, and have always been left with a deepened appreciation of "Life's Teaching Moments". Originally written to help his students gain greater self-esteem and appreciation for the differences in each of us, Yorgason later discovered that the story mirrored the life of one of his ancestors. Charlie is a "freak"-- born with a twisted back, one arm, and a shambling gait, he overcomes the scorn and rejection of others to win the love of the prettiest girl in town. When she dies at the hands of a drunken doctor, Charlie becomes embittered, but the essence of his character is revealed when faced with a choice of saving or abandoning the man responsible for his wife's death. Like so many of Yorgason's stories, a great tale of the "uses of adversity", the power of love, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit... a great read, highly recommended.

My favorite book!

This is an easy read, but I guarantee it will make you cry! Once you've read it, you'll likely want to share it with someone you care about. Ever since I read it for the first time over 15 years ago, it has been my favorite book!

Katy's Review

Charlie's Monument was a really good books that teaches life skills on learning to love others who have disabilities. And also to remember the good things and to keep on going no matter what happens to you.

What A Book

This is a great book ! This book is about a boy named Charlie. Charlie was born whith only one arm And twisted back . Charlie was a so called "reject" . No one would be his friend. You'll never beleave this book unless you read it for your self. This book you won't want to miss!

I want my kids to read this one!

I read this book when I was a kid and just recently read it again. (It only took about an hour and a half to read). It has a very positive message--one that youth today can't hear too much!
