Good News for a Suffering World

The decade of evangelism has spawned a large number of books on the "how" of evangelism, but little on "what" it is, and still less on evangelism in the context of suffering. There are two opposite dangers: either people get so caught up in theological debate that they ignore people and their pain, or people plunge so frenetically into action that they fail to ask what they are doing and why. The opening chapters examine what genuine hope Christians can offer. The book then tackles evangelism in connection with social action, healing, culture, the Church and other faiths. It concludes with questions for study and debate. The book is intended to give an outline map for evangelists in a suffering world. Social action must be imbued with faith: Gospel preaching must identify with those who suffer. Either way, if Christ is sending Christians out into the world, then it matters that they are clear about the task He has given them to do.
