CCNA: Cisco?ceritifed Network Associate Study Guide (Exam 640-801)

I own too many CCNA books. I only wish I had started with this one. As a recertification candidate I was floored by the amount of new material covered by the current CCNA exams. Todd Lammle has such a great way of presenting the material as it relates to the Cisco CCNA exam objectives, but also with respect to what we CCNA's do every day. Read this book, listen to Mr. Lammle's guidance, work the labs with real equipment or a great simulator like RouterSim's Network Visualizer, and pass the exam! This book is the best, and in my opinion the only, CCNA book you need.

I used this book to pass my CCNA test on August 24th. This text is much easier to read than the Cisco Press books. The material is easy to understand and Todd had done an excellent job showing the reader his own processes for learning. Two words, Block Size. Who knew calculating subnets could be so easy. The additional material on the CD (testing questions) are excellent for developing skills as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who is pursuing a first CCNA or renewing an expired certification.

This is a great book! Todd Lammle has the ability to make complex topics simple. Cisco books are essential once you've mastered networking basics, but there is nothing like Sybex for learning the concepts from A to Z. And don't go for the brain dumps where you just memorize a bunch of answers without understanding the material. Take the time to read Lammle's Study Guide, make notes, and read the book again. It may be difficult, but it will be interesting and you will have acquired skills that you can apply at work. Kym Blair CCIE #11115

I absolutely agree with the other reviewers in that, given this book and basic networking knowledge, you do not need anything else to pass the CCNA. And for those of you who are worrying that this book is outdated because it covers the 640-507 test (not the 640-607, which Cisco released in March 2002), there is nothing to fear; I just passed the 640-607 using nothing more than this book to guide me!

This is an outstanding book to thoroughly prepare yourself for the CCNA exam. Although I have been away from Cisco equipment for over 2 years now, I was able to sit down with this book and prepare myself for the exam in just over a week. I used no other materials and came away from the test with a 956. The section on IP addressing finally made the arcane world of subnetting clear to me, enabling me to calculate subnet masks, broadcasts addresses, and host ranges in my head! This book is a must have for anyone serious about obtaining their CCNA.
