Adorable Children's Book for Cat Lovers

While it is an unusual match, seeing as how cats are supposed to chase birds, so is not the case with Cat and Canary. For Canary is Cat's best friend, and when their owner leaves his New York City apartment, the two friends have tons of fun and adventure. Each day Cat lets Canary out of his cage, and they head to the roof. Seeing as how Canary is able to fly, Cat wishes he can fly as well. So when he sees a tangled kite wrapped around an aerial, he can't resist, and soon Cat is flying high, and much too far away. Now it's up to Canary and a group of his friends to save Cat by bringing him back home before their owner comes back home. I am an avid animal lover, and cats are my absolute favorite. Hence, I HAD to have CAT & CANARY. Michael Foreman has done a fantastic job of showing children what their pets do when they leave the house. Whether it's just messing things up in the house, or racing all over New York City. His wonderful illustrations make the book even better, for they bring the lovely prose to life, and really show a gorgeous view of New York City. This is an absolute must-have book for all cat lovers, or residents of New York City. You won't be disappointed. Erika Sorocco Book Review Columnist for The Community Bugle Newspaper

Great Story -- Real New Yorker view of the Cityscape

This is simply a wonderful book. The story is charming and captivating. the illustrations really come to life. What really struck me a native new yorker was how well he captured the new york cityscape. everyone has admired the ny skyline to the point that many pictures of it almost seem trite. These illustrations (such as water tanks on top of mid-level apartment buildings) capture the intimate visual details new yorkers know and love.

This was a wonderful story, and the pictures were beautiful.

When I was six in 1986, I was often read this book at school. I loved the way the pictures seemed real. And to this day when I see a caged bird I think of the singing canary in the story.
