An Excellent Addition to the Scholarship of Social Work

This is an excellent text to help the reader learn about the connection between social work and case management as well as to learn about the practice and evaluation of case management in a variety of settings that social workers may find themselves in, including mental health, health care, and long term care for the elderly. Rose, the editor, does a fine job of describing the issues that face social workers and case managers, especially considering the popularity case management has found with different funding sources. It is pointed out that case management would not be needed if systems of care were organized and easily accessible. The individual authors of the various chapters define case management, describe the different services usually provided as part of case management, and delineate the different ways case management can help the identified populations. Rose then brings it all together at the end. This is an excellent addition to the literature and the field; highly recommended.
