This analysis of the ministry of the pastor-teacher sees the pastor's function as arising from his identity and from what God intends for him to do. An important book for seminary students and pastors.
I have used David Larsen's excellent book, "Caring for the Flock, as a textbook for a class I teach on pastoral ministry. He has done an thorough job of covering all the issues facing the pastor today. While not as useful for someone who has pastored for 30 years, it is a wonderful introduction for someone who is anticipating pastoring a first church. Larsen is very practical and realistic in his approach. He reflects years of pastoral experience and maturity as he discusses what it means to care for the flock over which God has given the pastor responsibility. The book also reflects his teaching gifts as he instructs others in the classroom on the fine art of pastoring. I strongly recommend this book to those who are about to enter pastoral ministry.
