Even if the rest of the marxist theory is dead, there still is an hegemonic project, namely that of the right wing. That is why Przeworkis answer, to use modern economic theories to descripe the old project of the left, namely the welfare state is very important if left is to go on counter attac against neoliberalism. And Przeworski even offers alternative economic theory to present day free market thinking. The left has alternatives and you can learn from the past in building them.

This book bring to us a different marxism, because Przeworski uses neoclassical economic tools in his book. He studies the social democracy under a strategic choice of the labours' party in Europe: participate in the political game.

But If you think you are a serious student of social sciences, read any of Przeworski's books, and you'll be impressed with disillusionment. is the masterpiece among his works, increadibly smart, highly sophisticated, and provocative. Had Karl Marx read this book, he would have had no choice but to revise his famous book.
