First off, I love the concept of the “detective” being an archaeologist. The author uses real archaeological techniques to help solve the mystery. Not to mention he ties real-life stories of archaeology and ties it to the landscape of (in this book) the Grand Canyon.
Speaking of, the author paints vivid pictures of the land without ever bogging you down with too much description. It made me want to visit the National Park and see the places where the scenes occur.
The mystery was different than I was expecting, but really not bad. In fact, the climax was really suspenseful. The author managed to keep me guessing. There was no shortage of action and it balanced well with the moments of thinking things through.
Overall, if you’re looking for a good quick mystery, then this is worth picking up!
