A good read for calculus

When using this book, particularly in the multivariable section, I found that it was pretty good. A good portion of the problems are generally challenging, and one with interest in the physical sciences might find them fun to work at despite the time they take. However I have to point out that a certain degree of intelligence is expected when using this book . . . well I assume this applies to mathematics in general. However I still had to consult the Stewart calculus text for more insight on particular theorems and proofs.Overall the book is pretty standard.

Awesome book!

This book is the best book on mathematics I have ever read! very well written! May not be good for people who dont have any time to read though! ;)

another good book on calculus

This is the typical first-year college textbook on calculus. Nothing especially remarkable about it. It may be a bit stronger on multivariate calculus than most first-year books, but that's about it. Colour figures are good. Explanations are clear. Proofs readable. Lot's of exercises with and without answers. And it includes some relatively silly BASIC programs to illustrate numerical methods.

this book changed my life

i was given this book when i was in the 7th grade. it took me 3 or 4 readings to finally grasp all the concepts, but i learned all of elementary calculus from this one text. it is very complete, it covers ever topic thoroughly, except Diff Eqs. due to this book, i began taking college math courses while in high school, and am going off to graduate school next year for math and physics.

Value for money

This text book contains just about everything on calculus in a very clear and well presented form. As well as all the basics there are bits of historical info and lots of little extras that keep you interested and wanting to know more. Importantly its very well indexed which means things are very easy to find. Despite the fact that it is choc-a-block with information the layout is very spacious and pleasant to look at, heaps of roon to write your own marginal notes if you are so inclined. The diagrams are at all times excellent, clear and easy to understand. The two colour interior printing format is a great advantage, it makes the diagrams so much more readable.
