From their humble beginnings in war-torn Germany, larger than life Tiger Kings Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn roared into Las Vegas and tamed Sin City like no other act before them. Their mind-blowing illusions captivated the world and broke box-office records. In just one decade at The Mirage, their magical extravaganza--featuring rare white tigers, lions, and elephants--grossed an astounding half billion dollars. Then, in one tragic instant, their world came crashing down. On October 3, 2003, Roy Horn was savagely attacked on stage by his 600-pound white tiger, Mantecore. Beating back death's icy grip after he literally "died" on the operating table, dark-haired Roy fought for survival as his blond doppelganger Siegfred watched and prayed. Suddenly, the show was over...or was it? In The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy , three members of their inner circle--Jimmy Lavery, Jim Mydlach, and Louis Mydlach--unravel the story behind the famous duo's onstage act and personal drama. Louis--at Roy's side throughout his traumatic recovery--describes in detail the agonies of rehabilitating the partially paralyzed performer. Louis' father, Jim--head of security for the magicians--and Jimmy Lavery, a show consultant to the pair, provide additional insights about the ultimate showmen, as they masterfully hid a lifetime of secrets. In this compelling read, the authors reveal that the lives of Siegfried & Roy was their ultimate illusion.
This is a good book. It tells the good and bad side of these two men. It is a truthful book and very interesting, especially about how these two men came from such humble poor beginnings and made a half billion dollars. Their fame and glory of course was gone once Montecore attacked Roy Horn, but Roy admittedly had not been paying the same attention to his animals as he became middle-aged. It's a sad story because Roy Horn never became his normal self again and it's a story of the greatest Las Vegas act in history, outdoing all others. They even had a lifetime contract in Vegas until the attack. As to their being gay, well everyone knew that anyway didn't they, like Liberace, everyone knew but they loved the talent anyway. A very good read.

I loved author's cool and wit way of telling the story. Not trashing The Maestros, but an interesting story written with a great sens of humor. A+ for summer reading!
Very interesting read

This was a terrific book that gave a very "behind the scenes" look from first hand reports. Former employees always seem to be the best source for the real dirt and let it all hang out. These two have always been a source of mystery both on stage and in their personal lives, and this book really gave a great perspective on both. I'm glad I started my summer off with a great book like this, and I hope it gets turned into some sort of documentary.
Meeeeeow!

Whoa! This is one of those books that you CAN NOT put down! It's chock full o the best dirt on those two mysterious magicians. It's like watching the E! True Hollywood Story, but the unrated version! So great for that summer vacation reading. Seriously. It's good!
TOY BOYS, TIGERS, TERRIFYING RISKS...

Finally, a book that takes us inside the secret world of two young German guys who battled their way up from nothing, created an act that mixed wild white tigers with magic and built a multi-million Las Vegas empire. It's gossipy and fun -- with side trips to sun-drenched beaches south of the border for what might be called "body-surfing" -- but shows how the duo became animal activists devoted to saving wild creatures, especially their beloved white tigers, work considered so important that it led to a special audience at the Vatican with the Pope. And finally, the mystery is solved -- did Siegfried replace Roy with a double after his partner was attacked and mauled nearly to death? Incredibly, one famous movie star who's known them for years still believes he did! You've gotta read it to believe it. Great bio, long overdue.
