This is the Elk hunting book that helped me get started elk hunting with a bow during the mid 1980's. I still think that it is one of the best. Schuh's understated but information-packed style of writing makes this very readable, and it is more than just a cook-book style approach to killing an elk. I personally find instruction manual "how to do it" approaches boring. Schuh deals with the emotional aspects of hunting, the importance of having a good partner, conditioning, elk biology and the "big picture" of the hunt which is much more than killing an animal. I recommend this book highly, even though it is 20 years old and in some parts of the country elk hunting has evolved, and an approach based on calling is less effective than it once was.
