refreshingly honest

I seldom read action novels and probably wouldn't have cared for this one if I hadn't been reading nonfiction books about this problem. It's a gripping tale with sympathetic characters. One delightful surprise, every few pages, was a remark of such startling honesty that my reaction was, "Thank God, somebody had the guts to say that!" For example: "the attitude of the current administration was that it was more important to curry favor with the scum of the world than to protect American citizens." (p. 103) "The American and Mexican governments were helpless--by choice." (p. 132) "I just get so frustrated with the way the government of the greatest nation on earth runs scared so much of the time." (p. 138) "to the politicians in Washington...doing the right thing mattered a whole hell of a lot less than not doing the wrong thing." (p. 165) "with politicians on the other side getting elected more often than not because they're the lesser of two evils." (p. 174) "the higher-ups had been so mortally offended by the very idea of American citizens doing the right thing on their own." (p. 317) The big question, of course, is why. Why is our government allowing this to happen? Why are so many Americans unaware of what is going on? To find the answers to these and related questions, read While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination are Destroying America from Within. N. B. The terrorist group Los Lopos in the book is based on an actual group that presently exists called Los Zetas. They were trained in commando tactics by the U. S. military at Ft. Benning, Georgia for the Mexican army. But when they got back across the border, they decided it was more profitable and more glamorous to become banditos, so they hired themselves out to Mexican drug lords to protect their traffic of drugs into the U. S. Los Zetas have executed journalists, killed people in Dallas, McAllen and Loredo.
