Book Overview

The cataclysm of nuclear winter transmuted the world into a place both torturous and unforgiving. But there are those with the courage and perseverance to seek out something beyond the merciless life-and-death struggle of Deathlands. In a treacherous frontier that plays for keeps, staying alive is the best victory.... Much better effort

This book is one which is back on track as to what "Deathlands" should be. A little bit too much "stickie" in the trans mat chamber, however a definite improvement over the previous trash !!

Finally! A good harvest!

After having to throw away the last 3 books, i was beginning to think this series has finally began its downward spiral like its sister series Outlanders. The last 3, which i'll call the trilogy of terribles was really getting to me. I can only recall only once in over ten years not being able to finish a deathlands book. But the last 6 months have been just like that. Finally the draught is over! Whoever wrote Blood Harvest needs to continue writing this series all alone. It felt like the terrific writer who wrote the Dark Ressurection Xibola something or other novels. Dem books are da bomb! And so's this one. I think now i am gunshy as to which of thse books to purchase. I guess i will have to read a few chapters at the bookstore before i purchase another one. Seems there are 2 or 3 bad ones before you get a good one. To whoever wroite this one - thank you mucho much, dude!

New Author Revives Deathlands!

My husband and I have been faithful readers and reviewers of this long running series for years. We've seen the ups and downs. Now, finally, Deathlands has a bright new voice. Another new author apparently from the Mack Bolan universes has marched right in and with one single debut novel has brought the greatness back to this excellent series that has been in recent decline. Chuck Rogers has come into his own here and clearly shown he can write fantastic sci-fi with the best of them. Blood Harvest gripped us from the 1st page, and diehard Deathlands fans should be thrilled by this latest novel. It is epic in scope. With such past great writers such as Mel Odom, Victor Milan, and Alan Philipson, we hope that Mr. Rogers sticks around for a long time. He belongs to this series. If you fans out there like your Deathlands mixed with a dash of Pitch Black, with a pinch of Island of Dr. Merou, laced with a bit of vampire-like muties that are downright fresh and horrific, then you're gonna love this new book. And most importantly, the author seems to know the details of classic Deathlands. You get the feel of the characters of old here in this new one, and finally Krysty utilizes her Gaia powers! Something that has been drastically missing for far too long. Gold Eagle needs to give this writer a raise. Because if this is what he can do on his first tryout, then we fans cannot wait to see what he comes out weith next.

AS MUCH HORROR AS SCIENCE FICTION

I've read GOLD EAGLE books from Worldwide for 20 years and more, having hundreds of the Executioner, Stony Man, Able Team, Phoenix Force, SOBs, Vietnam: Ground Zero, and Rogue Angel books, on several shelves. Just recently began receiving a couple extra books in my bi-monthly shipment of 7. One of which was this Deathlands book. Though I have been aware of the series this is the first one I've read. Given I am a rookie reader will tell you that this book was a 'different' read than the usual GOLD EAGLE book I am used to. Almost medieval and dark in its content. However, after getting into the book began to enjoy the story line and the characters, especially Doctor Theophilus Tanner, or Doc, who has been torn from another century to show up in Deathlands. While Doc is on the borderline concerning sanity he is also a very knowledgeable, clever character with various interesting skills. Language skills being a main one in this book concerning the slaves of Sister Isle. There is quite a bit of 'mat-trans' in the book but only on a 72 hour basis which results in the group being split up into pairs of two with all 6 eventually arriving in the identical place, but with 3 days separating their various arrivals. Ryan and Doc first, Mildred and Jak second, and finally Krysty and J.B. Being washed ashore in the North Atlantic, acting out the plot on two separate islands, calls for some nifty plotting to gather all 6 amigos back into one location. After barely escaping the 'stickies' the group is in for another life threatening battle equally as dangerous as the one with the stickies. It becomes a struggle with the local baron and his blood sucking associates, one could accurately say these strange mutes are literally out for Ryan and his friend's blood. Caught up within a struggle between rulers of the day and of the night, Ryan, Doc, and the others must succeed in bringing on a true revolution to these islands. Not a bad read at all. Will be reading more Deathlands in the coming months. Also the companion subject books created by Mark Ellis, Outlanders. Upcoming Deathland and Outlanders books: (Deathlands) Arcadian's Asylum (May 11, 2010) (Outlanders) Infinity Breach (May 11, 2010) Semper Fi.
