BLACK SHEEP by Rachel Harrison This was not at all what I expected. Vesper has ostracized from her family and their strict religious community. One day she receives an unmarked invite to her cousin Rosie’s wedding to her former BF. Vesper’s curiosity gets the best of her so she returns to the compound to confront her family. This is not a horror or even remotely scary. The serious topics of toxic family dynamics, religious trauma and mommy/daddy issues are explored with a humorous twist. Though, those who belong to the often villainized cult mentioned in the story may take some offense at how they were portrayed. Personally, I was hoping for something darker, more atmospheric and creepy. I liked it, but didn’t love it. If you’re looking for a spooky season read that’s light on the scary and heavy on the camp, this would be a good choice. Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐️
