As a Black man, I found the book to be inspiring and informative.I have given away several copies including a copy to a friend who is incarcerated.

The authors, both psychologists, explore the issues facing Black men in America through case histories and biographical sketches, offering insights on racism, power, religion, family, Black consciousness movements, employment and education, and mentor programs, among other topics. Although some years have passed since its publication, their observations and recommendations still have power. Of particular importance is the final chapter on interventions, as well as the exploration of peer group influence, and the subject of macho identity. Includes bibliographic notes, index.
