Mitchell doesn't preach, he observes and recreates feel of the WWII era and centers on the internment of Japanese Americans. His characters live and breathe. Injustice unfolds in a cloak of mystery. Mitchell writes so you can visualize the entire story as if you were in a theater. This one's overdue for the cinema. This book is hard to set down -- a real page turner. His images linger in your mind. This book is strangely out of print but worth tracking down.
