Birds of Virginia

I bought the book "Birds of Ohio" because that's where I live. I really like using it because of the color coding used to find the bird identity and the great pictures. My son & daughter-in-law who recently moved to VA have lots of birds on their property so I looked for a similar book and found the authors had done one for VA. Because the pictures are so good, anyone can identify birds using it. My kids love it. It is a great book for the casual bird watcher.

birds of virginia field guide

very nice book, pictures of birds very good. i like how they have them separated by color makes it easy to look the birds up

Great for a quick reference

Nice little guide for our area. It shows pictures of both the male and female on the left hand of the page and on the right has the decription of the bird - a small map (with the key right there too), size, nesting, egg info, migration, food, and similar species. This is all just a really quick snap shot of info then there's "Stan's Notes" where the author gives a brief paragraph of a fun fact or two about the bird and where its found or habits, things like that. Nice book to have on hand. I keep mine near the window where I watch the feeders - especially in spring and fall - when there might be a new visitor that I'm not familiar with or I just want a very quick refresher on a bird.

A great guide

I love this "Birds of Virginia" book. Well done! The color plates are beautiful with interesting notes about each bird's features. I particularly like "Stan's Notes". For example, I learned more about the Cedar Waxwing and Flicker today from the book, even though I have seen them for years before. I moved to Virginia recently from Massachusetts and am very pleased to see the New England harbinger of spring here in Virginia year-round - the Robin!

Neat Bird Guide

I bought this book originally to draw the pictures of the birds I found inside. The pictures are wonderful....much better than most field guides. The information provided is also excellent - it says where in VA and when you will see each particular bird, along with details of their feathers, nests, eggs, and more. Each bird has a paragraph dedicated to specific information about that particular bird. It also includes a similar species reference. Very useful and interesting for those looking to learn a little more about the birds in their own backyards. The index also includes a list for you to check off which birds you've seen. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn a little more about VA birds.
