Beyond True Stories: A High-Intermediate Reader

Began using this series at the start of my ESL career and years later, they are still my go-to series. Students love them too. Be aware the stories are in black and white. The newer additions are in color and three to four times the price.

This is the fourth True Stories texts I have used in class. Normally, I have one student read a story and get up and tell it in front of the class or in a small group of three or four. This has worked really well and students have been able to use the stories as a springboard for discussions. However, the stories in this book are two pages long, which means that I had to take another approach and have small groups of students retell the stories together. That's why I give this a four star rating instead of a five. My students have TOEIC scores in the 700s and above.
