A jarring read!

Reading this book, I was struck by how often the macabre and the perverse is intricately depicted in O'Connor's stories. In sharp contrast to this theme, there is also a clear Christian sense to many of the stories, and those where it is lacking it is perhaps the lack of it which jars the reader most profoundly. One of the best and most unsung American authors...

...can be found in Flannery O'Connor. But don't be deceived, she is not an easy read. Her stories are disturbing and her characters are often grotesque, yet the reader undoubtedly knows that the author loves her characters very much. We never feel that a bitter, misanthropic creator is behind the stories, and this is the same view that O'Connor has of God that is put forth in her stories. Reading Wise Blood feels like...

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you were God and you had the ability to punish people justly and adequately for their actions?
