Between the Sheets

I requested this book from the publisher on the Kindle months ago even though I had read it in paperback before I got my Kindle...it was that good. My hope was that the author would publish future books on here and I see she has. This was so laugh out loud funny that I had to post a review via my Kindle when I saw it was finally available. Good girl gets mistaken for a Monica Lewinski but worse. Highly highly recommend and at this price I plan to buy another copy rather than search for my old one. A keeper. And an author to watch if you like romantic comedy. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Emma Jamison never set out to be famous. All she wanted was to maintain her own temporary-butler service and once she meets Mr. Right marry and have kids. That's not too much to ask, is it? Apparently it is, but her last job lands her as the face of the woman who's `services' caused the fatal heart-attack that ended the president-elect's life. Never mind that she never even met the man. Emma was simply doing her job as a temporary butler when the president-elect along with his secret service staff arrived at the Mullendorf estate. She stayed cloistered in the kitchen rechecking the inventory while Ferguson and his call girl were hustled up the back stairway. She heard the banging from above stairs and thought that something was wrong with the water heater but with a secret service agent ensuring she stayed out of the way, she quickly realizes just what the squeaking means and is very uncomfortable with the situation because she knows Ferguson's wife is out of town. As luck would have it one of the buttons pops off her dress just as she's preparing to leave and she tries to repair the damage with a safety pin. Seconds later there's apparently an emergency because she's practically ejected from the house, with her dress gaping open. The photographers waiting outside take pictures of her leaving and it isn't until later that evening that she learns what happened. Nobody believes she's innocent - and she exhausts all her assets trying to prove that she wasn't the woman with Ferguson. Left with few options, Emma makes the move to Chartreuse, Louisiana while praying for a fresh start. D.A. Max Duveal is running for a second term in office and scandal is something he definitely can't afford. That doesn't stop him from taking a shine to Emma. Since her grandmother and his grandfather have apparently defied the retirement center's `rules' and are shacking up it's impossible to avoid her. The more he gets to know her the more he realizes that something about the woman he's come to know isn't anything like how the press has depicted her. What's even more shocking is the evidence she's provided points to the very real possibility that she's telling the truth and she really never met Ferguson. Dare he risk his heart and office to a woman who's still the subject of so much public speculation? Have you ever wondered about the women publicly humiliated after having affairs with public officials? BETWEEN THE SHEETS gives readers a new perspective about how it would be to try to live down a scandal - especially when the woman in question is totally innocent. I felt so bad for Emma over her ordeal - especially since she has such a phobia of cameras and she's constantly being hounded by paparazzi. Max is absolutely wonderful. He could have easily ignored Emma's plight but instead he befriends her and sets about finding evidence to prove her innocence. I was so excited to read a new Robin Wells book. I love her writing and Between the Sheets may just be her best. The heroine is very likeable and someone the reader cares about. The hero is dreamy and heroic and romantic, etc. etc. The cast of other characters are fun and add so much to the story. It's a great story with depth and emotion and humor throughout. Grams and Harold are wonderful and funny and wise. I don't know what more I can say. It was perfect. It met all my standards for an excellent romance. I am glad Wells is writing again. How soon can she get another on the shelves? Highly recommend.

This is from one of my favorite authors and I have really been looking forward to picking up her latest. I agree with the review that said Robin Wells books are great chick-lit. One thing I like about her books is that she fills them with such interesting characters, not just the hero and heroine, but the supporting characters as well. She also uses humor to write about some pretty serious stuff that all of us can relate to. When Emma finds herself stuck in the national spotlight, you really feel for her and when the book is over, you kind of miss the characters and wish you could spend more time with them. For me that is the sign of a great read!

It's a nightmare come true. Instead of continuing her lucrative career as a butler, Emma Jamison suddenly finds herself having to pick up the shatters of her reputation, move away from her home, and start afresh in a small rural town. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time-and everybody thinks she's the girl who gave the president-elect a fatal heart-attack during an illicit sex-romp. Unfortunately moving away changes nothing. Everybody is still convinced of her guilt, and as she has a phobia against TV cameras, she can't even go public and defend herself...not like anybody would believe her anyway. The story is far too juicy for that. However, when Emma falls for Max Duval, the local DA, she knows something has to be done. Being with a public figure is the last thing she needs, and dating an alleged call-girl is the last thing he needs. If only they could find the girl who really was with the president-elect that night... . Between the Sheets is chick-lit of the best kind. The characters come alive in Robin Well's writing and you can't help but care for them all - from Emma's grandmother and her late-in-life new husband, who are both wonderfully eccentric; to Katie, the town hair stylist who is the only person to believe Emma's innocence and helps bolster her up with her no-nonsense ideas and quick wit; and Max, the unlikely knight in shining armour. As an all-around great story I had difficulty putting Between the Sheets down at night. I loved the romance between Emma and Max and seeing how his trust made her grow, but the best surprise of the story was the adorable love story between Emma's grandmother and Max' grandfather. Love can happen at any age, and seeing Grams take care of yet another husband with Alzheimer was incredibly touching. A spunky old lady, she gives Emma the best description of love she could ever get: "When you love someone, their burdens are yours, and yours are theirs, and it's your heart's desire to help them any way you can." - Even by facing a panic-inducing TV-phobia to clear your name.
