Being mid-50's, I occasionally think back nostalgically about the pivotal moments that put me on my lifelong cooking journey. A cooking journey that has taken decades, taken me all over the world and delved into the cuisine of countless cultures. This book represents the first steps on that journey. Due to a very messy parental divorce, at 14 I stepped into the role of house cook for a family of 5. This book was the first cookbook I ever read to learn how to make breads. We were poor and the ingredients were cheap. After years of use, more than all the others, the pizza dough recipe on page 18 was covered in oil and splatter from years of repeated use. Years later, my family home burned down in an electrical fire and everything was lost. I have searched for this book for years as it represents so much more than a cookbook. I am very glad to have finally found a copy as it bring back parts of a childhood I though were lost forever. All of the recipes are easy to execute, delicious and are written for people who are not necessarily experienced bakers. As a child of 14, this was a great starter book as I could follow the basic recipes, improve my technique and move on to more complicated recipes.
