Book Overview

The #1 New York Times best-selling story of addiction and a father's love: "A brilliant, harrowing, heartbreaking, fascinating story, full of beautiful moments and hard-won wisdom. This book will save a lot of lives and heal a lot of hearts."--Anne LamottWhat had happened to my beautiful boy? To our family? What did I do wrong? Those are the wrenching questions that haunted David Sheff's journey through his son Nic's addiction to drugs and tentative steps toward recovery. Before Nic became addicted to crystal meth, he was a charming boy, joyous and funny, a varsity athlete and honor student adored by his two younger siblings. After meth, he was a trembling wraith who lied, stole, and lived on the streets. David Sheff traces the first warning signs: the denial, the three a.m. phone calls--is it Nic? the police? the hospital? His preoccupation with Nic became an addiction in itself. But as a journalist, he instinctively researched every treatment that might save his son. And he refused to give up on Nic.Now a Major Motion Picture Starring Steve Carell and Timoth e Chalamet. With a new Afterword from the author. A sad book

Sad because of the number of times Nic relapses. His poor father is hanging by a thread. As is his mother. A tough book to read. I recommend it.

The epilogue is on another level.

The book tells the reality of what drug does to the young and to all around them. The book keeps you on ur toes and wanting the best for mic but also feeling a bit of disappointment, just like the dad feels. The best part of the whole book is the epilogue, stick around for it, goosebumps.

My life is no longer the same

This book is EVERYTHING. ( if you read the book you get this phrase) beautifully illustrates the battle of a young man from the perspectives of others. I found myself personally attacks in some parts that related to my life experience but it was true. David Scheff not only out did himself in this book but he did so in life. He is the father any little girl or boy deserves. Seriously considering re reading. If you read anything...
