This an enchanting story of events concerning an Irish family in the recent past told across two generations and from the perspective of members of that family. The narrative, which is dramatic and intriguing, unfolds slowly but effectively. One is never sure until the end how the resolution will occur but the author manages to sustain a compelling interest throughout until the very end. Her evocation of provincial Ireland: the mores, the culture, the inhibitions and repressions are truly masterful. This is a tour de force!
