Beatrice Loses Her Doll

This book is a favorite among the preschoolers I babysit. They love the illustrations. Each page has just the right amount of text (not very much)and the wording is simple, yet descriptive. The story describes how Beatrice can't find her favorite doll and searches for her diligently, just like she heard in Sunday School about a story Jesus told - the Good Shepherd who seeks high and low if just one sheep strays from his flock. Beatrice even dresses up as a Biblical shepherd to intensify her search - and ends up finding her doll. The last page (after the story's end) is a more informative commentary about the meaning behind the Bible reference. It's sweet and just the perfect "bed-time" length of a read, quite appropriate for young ones.
