If you are an experience field trialer or show dog event person, then skip this book - it is for hunters who like to get out in the wilds with good friends and great hounds. Bill Bennett is like a favorite uncle, always there with a helpful suggestion, but not preachy regarding his methods. Respect the land and wild creatures, and train your beagles with consistency and kindness are predominant messages.

This book does a good job of covering techniques owners of beagles might want to use in order to train their hounds for hunting or house pets. As the owner of a beagle, I found many of the tips useful and helpful. Although my beagle is not used to hunt game, the tips in this book worked well with my hound. I found this book to be a good teaching tool.

I found his delivery to be clear and easy to understand. I purchased other beagle books and didn't find much on the training process. Here the author takes you from the first day of ownership to a finished hunting dog. I have tried to follow his instructions and now have a well started puppy.
