Book Overview

The frontman of one of the greatest bands of all time tells the story of his rise from nothing to rock 'n' roll megastar, and his wild journey as the voice of The Who.

Daltrey's Life and Times as The Who's Frontman

Any serious Who fan should without hesitation or doubt read this. Any serious fan of 60-70's Rock-n-Roll should read this. Any music nerd trying to appreciate or learn about Rocks meteoric rise and the early influencers should read this. An easy read not only because of the obvious content you are expecting, but also because he is artful in the unpacking of that history and how he relates it to the details of his personal life. With plenty of intrigue and back stories as The Who's front man, Rogers skills at writing them in a western influenced British english is what makes this an easy read. Daltrey doesn't shy away from being honest about himself and his bandmates, but he avoids the use of a shovel and gouging their eyes out. Its just his honest and truthful version, without any unecessary drama. I especially liked learning about his life throughout the arch of The Who's existence. There was nothing to dislike. As a Who fan you will surely like this. As a Rock and music fan of any kind you should enjoy this. If you are younger and searching for another account of how it got started, this should leave you appreciating The Who's piece in that. A definite reread for me, and no doubt soon.
