A history of the often overlooked managerial side of baseball

One side of baseball that is often overlooked by young people is the role of the manager. Praised when the team is successful and ridiculed and fired when they are not, baseball history generally neglects them. That is why I enjoyed this book so much; it gives brief description of the managerial lives of some of the greatest to ever run a team from the dugout. The people profiled are: *) John McGraw *) Connie Mack *) Wilbert Robinson *) Frank Frisch *) Branch Rickey *) Leo Durocher *) Casey Stengel *) Earl Weaver *) Billy Martin Of this group, it is clear that Branch Rickey had the greatest impact on the game. His decision to integrate the Dodgers did more to change baseball and society than all that the others did. Written at the level of the middle school child, this is a book that shows another historical side of baseball. One that should not be neglected, but unfortunately often is.
