Great ideas, but gets repetitive.

The first half of the book is really good and has lots of ideas that allow you to rethink the way you interact with students and what the purpose of doing work in class is all about. Tucker talks about how teachers can give better feedback to their students by grading them on their skills and assisting them in the creation process of their work instead of just giving them a number at the end of the assignment. Throughout the book she discusses different techniques. Teachers can use such as stations to organize their classrooms in order to make students available for conferencing one-on-one or in small groups. Some of the ideas seem realistic and practical. For me, it seemed as though some of the ideas were a little bit of a stretch, although she claims they do work. I read this as part of an academic book club with other teachers and it was interesting to see how our experiences shaped the way that we received her ideas. I would recommend teachers take a look at it, but it might be better to borrow it from a library then purchase it.
