Here for the first time is revealed the true and compelling story of the sensationally successful joint US and UK campaign to liberate Iraq from the oppressive regime of Saddam Hussein from its conception to dramatic conclusion. The author uses his unique knowledge and network of contacts to describe the meticulous planning of this massive undertaking, which involved the mustering of land, sea and air forces from thousands of miles away. He examines the logistical and political problems that at times appeared insurmountable and the nail biting tensions and maneuvering behind the scenes conducted under conditions of extreme pressure and secrecy. His account of the military operations once hostilities began in such dramatic fashion makes for riveting reading drawing as they do on the experiences of those who fought in the front-line and in the air. The book also delves into those curses of modern warfare, friendly fire incidents and collateral damage, and why, even with all the marvels of modem technology, we still cannot prevent tragedies happening.
This fun new book on the second Iraq war is full of details and pictures. It presents a clear `case for invasion' in its opening pages. Then a detailed cast of characters and units is given, followed by a blow by blow account of the war. Color pictures are the norm and this book is a good quick guide to the war. The only flaw is that although unit names are given the maps showing the actual invasion routes is not detailed enough o show the tactical plain of combat. But nevertheless this is a good book.Seth J. Frantzman
