Baby Elf's Christmas

This is a cute little book for the preschool and under crowd (although my two kiddos were the ones who pulled it down from the library shelves to peruse.) The color scheme is predominantly red and green as you might expect. And the principle subjects are an sweet baby elf with big brown eyes and an impish grin. His buddy is an equally adorable mouse with a cheerful red ribbon around his/her neck. The book is a sturdy boardbook 18 pages in length. There is rhyme on every other page The lyrics are pretty good and the book as a whole makes for a Good Read-aloud. Here's a sample: He likes to mix and stir and bake. Christmas is the time to make... some sweet gift to give away with lots of love on Christmas Day. Now given how nice this book is, there are some things that some people are going to wish were included. For one, there is no religious intent to this book, and given the origins of the holiday some are going to see that as an oversight. For others, there might be a problem with the fact that the little elf receives his friend, the mouse, as a gift. But too each their own. I liked the book, as did my 7 and 9 year olds. They thought the two buddies were so sweet. Wrap-Up::: Sweet boardbook for those celebrating baby's first Christmas. The artwork is very delightful, and there are nice sentiments like giving to others, and sharing kisses and hugs. Young children will love the baby and mouse duo. They will also love to see the two sing songs and play with ribbons and boxes, and look with wonder at the fairies who sit in the branches holding colorful lights. And everyone will smile to see the little elf baby adding sprinkles to frosted star cookies (a gift for others). Ever since my son got this book for Christmas (a few months ago) he wants me to read it to him everyday! He's 1 - but I think children up to 3-4 would like it! It's such a sweet book - the pictures are great. The little elf's face is just precious : ) Each page has a nice little rhyme - so it's fun to read. You will love it!

I am a collector of Christmas books. I have four grandchildren who are in various stages of reading. I ask each of them to read me a story when we are together. The artwork and the story are just precious. Even my older grandkids will think this is great - I do. I plan to display it during Christmas time to allow more people to enjoy it. Mary Kay
