Love Children's Books With Real Photographs

Great book. We collect books with real photos and a good story which are kind of scarce. This was a very cute book and great photos. I don't know why it received only 4 stars from other reviewers. I liked it so much that I looked up this photographer and author and found another children's book that we love called "Some Babies are Wild." I also recommend "Baby Porcupine" by Aubrey Lang and Wayne Lynch (they have many books like this)! We also like the "Lost in the Woods" series by Carl R Sams II and Jean Stoick.

A very wonderful and "bearable" story!

Ohhh, he's so cute! That was my first reaction when I saw the cover photo of Baby Bear nose to nose with a skunk. Author Marion Dane Bauer has written more than 50 books for young people, winning many awards, including the Newbery Honor. She teaches college courses in writing for children and young adults. Her words nicely complement the photos. Stan Tekiela is a naturalist, author, newspaper columnist, radio personality and wildlife photographer. His ability to capture the various animals and Baby Bear's natural reaction tells the visual story. This outstanding combination makes for a book that will touch both the children and "the child within" any adult. Baby Bear decides he is big enough to investigate the world alone. All the animals he meets ask him "Where is your mama?" The wonderful photos of "bears being bears" made me fondly remember the many times our family saw bears in Northern Minnesota, and how their behavior fascinated all of us. In addition to the obvious story of the Baby Bear's curiosity, parents can use this message as a tool to talk with their young children about staying close to mom or dad when outside their home, that "independence" isn't always a good or safe thing. Armchair Interviews says: Your kids will learn by watching "bears be bears" and the relationship between Baby Bear and his mama.

For your young aspiring naturalist

This is a great little picture book about a little bear cub who sets out on an adventure. His mother and all the creatures he comes across tell him he's not old enough to be out on his own. He thinks he is plenty big enough to be out by himself in the big world. The nature photos and the playful story combine the talents of naturalist, Stan Tekiela and author, Marion Dane Bauer. The photos show not only the bear cub and his mother, but many of the other wild animals of the Minnesota woods as well. Great for a family who wants to encourage their little ones to love and treasure the animals who inhabit the wilderness.
