Audition Arsenal for Women in Their 30s: 101 Monologues by Type, 2 Minutes & Under

I love that the author wrote a book of age-specific monologues.! My students love this book because all of the pieces are within their age range. A special, wonderful thing about this book is that it is divided into Types meaning the qualities that the monologues show such as Vulnerable, Wacky, Romantic, etc. so it's easy to search for pieces to round out a repertoire or for a specific role. Additionally THESE MONOLOGUES ARE NOT OVERDONE. In fact, in the front of the book the author explains that she wanted to find some new, fresh pieces and if you cannot find the play easily at say drama bookshop, look in the permissions section in the back and you can email the authors directly! Most have been great about either sending me free copies of their plays or leading me to the best place to purchase them (some of that info is in the back too). With more and more people asking for monologues under 2 minutes, and less and less new plays published, this book is a no-brainer for anyone looking for the short, but sharp, monologue that will get someone's attention. There is contact information in the book, so you can (as far as I've found) find out how to get the whole script if you want to do your homework on a particular piece - and if you can't find it online - which is a bonus. But I wish they also published more of these plays!

Being a person of conservative values means that about 60% of the material here needed exclusion or editing if I were to use it, but there are still several pieces that are powerful without being obscene or objectionable, and a few that are funny without being foul. In all, it was worth the money I paid for it and I'm glad I have it in my collection.
