My first time reading any of her books and Sophia James is just a great writer. The story just flows and you can't put down the book. Easey reading, fast and the book is just great form begining to end. I read the book in 2 days. I will defenetly read her books more.

4 1/2 Star Medieval

In a battle's aftermath, Madeleine Randwick was hiding in the woods near her brother's castle, waiting for the opportunity to tend to the wounded. She was spotted by the enemy, the hated Laird of Ullyot, and taken captive, along with her page, Jemmie. Although Maddy was glad to be away from her cruel and manipulative brother, Noel, she feared she would be in no better position once she was taken to Ashblane, the borderland keep of the Ullyots. Laird Alexander had no reason to like or trust Maddy. In addition to being the sister of Noel Falstone, Maddy's own reputation was equally low--witch, whore, murderer. But Maddy doesn't conform to her reputation, and Alexander is confused when she "magically" heals his life-threatening, infected wounds on the trip to Ashblane. Once at Ashblane, Maddy continues to mystify Alexander and his people with her demeanor and healing abilities. Maddy obviously has many secrets, and Alexander is interested in unraveling them. With his growing interest in Maddy, Alexander must balance her safety with the protection and well-being of Ashblane. Gradually, Alexander realizes the precarious situation Maddy has lived under for years as a wealthy heiress being used as the pawn of kings and nobles in both England and Scotland. In order to ensure some degree of safety for Maddy and Jemmie, Alexander undertakes a clandestine trip to Maddy's grandmother in England to retrieve a dangerous document. Dressed as a boy, Maddy follows. The journey is perilous--full of physical hardship and danger, as well as teeming with intrigue and hidden agendas--and the growing relationship between Maddy and Alexander will be sorely tested. ASHBLANE'S LADY is a rich story, full of adventure, political machination, deep emotion, and imperfect leading characters with dark pasts. Alexander is a hard but complex man who has seen too much brutality and disappointment. Maddy's reputation sets her apart from other women. Although most of it is not true, she has promoted it instead of refuting it as a way of protecting herself. They each realize that they have much to offer the other--if only they can manage to survive the dangers that threaten them.
