Book Overview

Art of the Cross celebrates one of the world's most recognized ancient symbols-the cross. This iconic symbol predates Christianity in cultures around the world, and has been used as a religious symbol and as an ornament from the dawn of civilization. The Way of The Cross

Very nice little book with good photography and personal and chatty and interesting text. If you are a cross collector you will love having this book to enhance your collection. Even now with crosses becoming popular decorative objects, many visitors to my home are startled by my collection. So now I hand them this pretty little book to peruse, and they kind of understand a reason behind a unique collection. This book is very well priced too.

Beautiful Book!

Leave it to Mary Emmerling to recognize spiritual icons as an art form. The book is beautiful in its simplicity. An hour spent soaking in its pages is akin to meditation.

Collecting Crosses

Having collected crosses for years, I truly have an appreciation for this book. I have followed Mary Emmerling's career since the 80's and read/own many of her books. I truly believe she is the founder of the Contemporary American Country look. Since she is the Creative Director/writer for Country Home magazine and I love her style, this is why I subscribe to the magazine. I've had the pleasure knowing Nathalie Kent (whom is partly responsible for this book) for years and visiting her two shops in Santa Fe. In December of 2006 I had the pleasure and wonderful opportunity to meet with the photographer of the book, Jim Arndt. What a treat. You don't have to be religious to admire this book. It's about appreciating "the art of the cross". For me, the photographs, colors and tactile feel of the book is just an added bonus to why I truly love this book! Hope to see a "second chapter" to this one!

One of her best!

I have collected crosses for years, and I am so happy to have a book about them filtered through Mary's impeccably elegant tastes. From thrift stores to antique warehouses, she has brought together a stellar retrospective of the cross in design. The photographs are beautiful and while it is not a large size coffee table book, it's pretty affordable. I highly recommend it, especially as a gift for the holiday season.
