My name is Rosa and I cut up meat

One in a fine series of early readers that gives an overview of a country via first-person profiles of twenty-six nationals of varying ages and occupations. Notable in this volume is the focus on Argentina's cattle industry, casual shift into modernity and the ethnic diversity of its population. Like the other books in the series, this is well-written and the featured photographs range from middling to excellent. While the nation's cultural paradigm is dominated by Spanish characteristics, the presence of aboriginals (most notably the Diaguita) and the immigration of Anglo-Saxons, Catalans, Welsh, Germans and especially Italians over the course of several centuries is evident in the variety of the populace's ethnic phenotypes. While Argentina has changed quite a lot since this book's mid-'80s printing, it provides a fine snapshot of life in the country at that time.
