April Gold is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am a 'dyed in the wool' GLH fan, but I am the first to admit some of her books are not on my "WOW" list! But this one definitely is. What this dear family goes through is very trying to say the least but of course, everything will come out wonderful in the end. This is one of her best, in my opinion - I guess I've read it several times -- I own almost every one of her books. You will not regret purchasing this one , it is a must read ...... I only wish Hollywood would grow a brain and start making movies out of her stuff!!!!!

A gem!

This too had the theme of God taking adversity and using it for good in our lives. It was a skillfully woven tale with lots of interesting characters that added a lot of dimension to the book. The father dies suddenly, the bank fails and an unscrupulous lawyer threatens to take their home. As a result of all those calamites the Mother decides they should move onto this other property they own but it is in a very bad part of town. I enjoyed meeting all the neighbors--the seven little orphan boys particularly. I also liked Bat as Ms. Hill developed his character and showed him unscrupulous but then hungering for a life he has never seen before or known.

I checked this book out of the library to read and liked it so much I have to get my own copy! What made this book one I want to keep was the quality of the family relationships and friendships described by the author. Even though the main characters were going through a really difficult time in their lives, they didn't become bitter or mean spirited. Their faith in Christ grew as they worked through their struggles. It motivated me to improve the quality of my relationships and not give myself the excuse that "I'm having a hard time of things right now & I'll be better once I get over this crisis."Yes it was written almost 65 years ago, but the less modern style works to its advantage in my opinion. Some may argue that no one is as positive & even happy in the face of adversity as Mrs. Hill portrays, but I have personally seen some comparable 'real life' examples around me and say "why not try!" We all have a choice as to how we respond to life's hard knocks and it's refreshing to have a model of a positive response!
