Revelation: Read it Again for the First Time

"On the contrary Michael, this book goes back in history to explore what the others have 'Left Behind.'" (quote from Matt Lumpkin) Hays and Pate did an excellent job of showing the circumstances surrounding the original audience of John's Revelation. It was an enjoyable read, as well as educational. I read it while I was holed away in a hospital in Singapore. It was great to be able to pick up something so engaging after the nurses woke me up to take my blood pressure at 4am. This book depicts the beginning of persecution of Christians, persecution that in some places still exists. The characters in the book were required to choose between the God they served and their life. This book is a poignant reminder of those who suffer because of the name of Christ and the victory that belongs to those who persevere.

Leaving All Competition Behind...

There are numerous books out there that discuss the end times using Revelation and CNN as thier only sources. Hays and Pate write an exciting novel within the historical context of John's apocalypse. There's action, suspense, tragedy and yes, a lot of romance. I highly recommend this book. It leaves those other prophecy books way behind!

Incredible mix of theology and fiction!!

J Daniel Hays and C Marvin Pate have done an amazing job on their first fictional writing. "Apocalypse" is a perfect blend of biblical theology and creative fiction that kept me riveted to the pages. They stay true to the meaning of the biblical text, while incorporating romance and intrigue to create a great storyline. I would recommend "Apocalypse" to anyone, from the scholar to the evening novel reader. If you liked Left Behind, you'll love this even more.
