OUT OF THE ROCKIES, BENT'S FORT, SANTA FE, AND BATTLING THE APACHES IN NEW MEXICO!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
Another interesting and well written book in this mountain man series from David Thompson (David L. Robbins). Interesting fact: an actual David Thompson, Canadian mountain man and explorer who mapped most the Canadian West did exist. In this book we experience travel to New Mexico and the Santa Fe wagon trade, but once there, the Apaches kidnap Nate King's wife and some others of his friends. The 'ins and outs' of the final third of the story focuses on the attempt to recapture all Mexican and Indian women and children forced into captivity by these Apaches. We get some history and closeup glimpses of these Apache raiders, however Mr. Robbins does not exactly identify from which band these marauders come. None-the-less, the ensuing chase deeper into both desert and mountains, and its eventual outcome is a very exciting read. As with all the Wilderness books in this series any reader holding interest in the trapper or mountain man era in the Rocky Mountains should find these books very pleasing. Here's to many, many more from the pen of Mr. Robbins, with number 55 due off the presses late February, 2008. Semper Fi.
