Animal Mischief

What do you get when you mix poetry and science? You get a little "animal mischief," that's what! You'll get to see the starfish turn its stomach inside out, you'll learn that armadillos only give birth to quadruplets, you'll get to see a sloth doing his homework suspended upside down in a tree, and you'll learn the difference between a camel and a dromedary. Those aren't the only creatures you'll get to visit with, just a sampling in this fun and informative book of poetry. Did you know that the "biggest fish in all the sea" is as long as a house? The fish is often referred to as a whale. Go figure. Once Upon a Time To see a Carolina Parakeet Used to be a common treat. Its yellow, green, and crimson feathers Were found in every kind of weathers. Then someone hit "delete." Sadly, if you want to see him Now you visit your museum. Every time I turned the page I found a new "favorite" poem in this book, but each one seemed better than the last. This poetry book is quite unique in that it is a "mix of art, poetry, and science," something I've never seen before, but found the mix quite enjoyable. One of my favorites was about the sidewinder. The words twisted and wended their way toward the bottom of the page where we see the almost smiling face of the sidewinder. "If you've never seen a side winder, its tracks in sand will help you find her." These poems are really quite refreshing and have actual animal facts in them. In the back of the book there are "Fun Facts" about ten of these creatures. If you want a novel mix of poetry with a great twist, you may wish to consider this one!
