Slavery stories are always hard. The story of Mayme and Katie is no different. Both girls lives are filled with tragedy and triumph from different perspectives and yet some of what they suffered was the same. When I found myself getting upset, I had to remember, they were young girls and it was not the 21st century. I look forward to reading the rest of the series to see what becomes of these two girls.
