Great perspective on missionary life & the necesity of scripture

My husband & I (wife speaking here) were given/lent this book by a Wycliff staff member and we have each flown through it and loved it! I especially appreciated the perspective it was able to give me on what being a bible translator would actually be like. It was also very informative and encouraging on how necesary it is for a people to have the Word of God in their Native tongue, and how much their faith flourishes once this is accomlished. The book also shed a lot of light on the way demonic spirits hold people captive in fear, and how God breaks them free of it. I highly recommend it. As soon as my husband finishes reading it-I'm going to lend it to my sister, and then another friend. My husband would also recommend (I have not read it yet), "In Search of the Source" by Neil Anderson. It is somewhat similar, but talks more about the bible translation aspect that the missionary life. A little more adventerous, which may be more appealing for the men.
Great Book

Don't read this book...

Don't read this book if you don't want to be convicted of God's awesome power, of the need to 'go ye into all the world', and of the relatively powerless life most American Christians lead. The testimony of Joanne Shetler was an inspiration to me. My God is much greater than I give him credit for being. I intended to merely skim this book as research for a novel I'm working on, but the story compelled me to read every word and then read it--prayerfully--again.Deborah Raney, author of A Vow to Cherish and Beneath a Southern Sky
A wonderful, heart wrenching story...

This book has really touched my heart and has shown me that God is so BIG and awesome!!! All the numerous ways that God used Joanne's ministry to bring the Balangaos to Him was incredible. All of the miracles mentioned in the book are amazing, and could have only happened through God.
