I have all of the Helen Brooks books that have come out in America, except Dance Sonata, I love her edgy, funny, tender plots. I read mostly old, old Harlequin Romances so when I found this book in 1993, I liked it then, and because this site wasn't available to me then, I reread it so I could add my review. This book kept me laughing so much my sides hurt, but I also found it sad Fabia has reverse sob-ism, but with good cause, she got burned badly, and to be honest, most of us have been burned. That is way I could relate to Fabia's fear. Unfortunately poor Alex Cade has no clue as to why the one woman he falls for hates his guts. Although Alex's Grandmother Isabella finds the humor in Alex's blunders. And she acts as cupid. Thank you, Helen Brooks for a sweet love story, with a twist.
Harlequin with a twist

I really enjoyed reading this book by Helen Brooks. The hero of the book falls in love with the heroine, Fabia, immediately-but she does not trust any man, and keeps him at arm's length for a very long time. What I found different was her "I can take him or leave him" attitude, instead of the sometimes sappy love-lorn heroines. This girl is a toughie, and gives our hero a run for his money! Delightful.

Back cover reads: Wedding vows were meant to be kept! There was an old story about the Cade men: they only love once...but when they do, it's for eternity! But where did that leave an ordinary working girl like Fabia? Alex Cade had made it clear that he needed her solely for business purposes. Yet, somehow, nothing could stop the pangs of jealousy that pierced Fabia'a heart whenever glamorous widow Susan latched on to Alex! Fabia was determined not to give in to her feelings. She had made a vow, and it was one she didn't take lightly...that if she was foolish enough to fall in love, then she would wear black on her wedding day!
