This book illustrates a close-to-real-life scene of unrequited love. It presents an exceptional illustration of the consequences of "pursuing that girl you have to have" even though her disinterest is more than evident. Sandy Smith's indifferent and uncaring attitude would have earned her more than a kick in the "you-know-where" from any other person not so taken with her so-called "star quality." Tom was so taken with the idea of her that he allowed a self-serving, spoiled little brat to wreck what should have been the best time of his life. I strongly recommend this great book; although written in the 1980's, it should be the Bible for all men who have at one time or another let themselves become obsessed with someone unworthy of them. Fellows, you deserve better, Tom deserved better, and please let this be a lesson in not wasting your life on "exceptional but indifferent" people. Their rejection is NOT a reflection on you, rather, it is a sign for you to find someone more worthy of your time and your devotion. Leave the unemotional "Sandy Smiths" alone and let them coast through their lives with their disregard for others and their appalling self-love. In the end, that's all they'll have left--their miserable, sorry, and blank-personality selves!!!
