An Officer's Duty

You know all those stories all over various genres about a Chosen One, a foreseen Hero who will save the (tribe/kingdom/world/civilization/galaxy) and fulfill a prophecied destiny? They're common as dirt in a garden. This is NOT the story about the foreseen Hero. This is the story about the prophet, and all the machinations she sets into motion to give that someday-future hero even a slim chance at actually winning. I really loved how even though you had a protagonist who could see the future, there was still tension and suspense. The whole enterprise is one big gamble with the fate of the universe; trying to bring the *right* future into being. After all, even if she can see the future, she's only one person. The future rests with more than just her. I recommend the whole series.
