In 1874, she lived with her husband in Sitka, where he was a surgeon at an army post. These letters to her mother in Philadelphia describe to rigors of raising children & making a home on the frontier, the social life of an army wife & then her letters home from Fort Lapwai in Idaho, where she witnessed the Nez Perce War.
