America's Last Call: On the Brink of a Financial Holocaust

Pastor Wilkerson looks even more prophetic now. The news last week is exactly what this book predicts.

Having had no new visions, no new dreams, nor special revelations relative to the end of our current age (see also, THE VISION: A TERRIFYING PROPHECY OF DOOMSDAY THAT IS STARTING TO HAPPEN NOW (1974), David Wilkerson looks now to the lessons of biblical history to demonstrate and conclude that the United States of America is over-ripe for imminent divine judgment characterized in this writing as a dramatic economic meltdown. Perhaps, THE leading Christian prophetic voice of our time declares: "The American Dream is going to turn into the American nightmare. It will occur suddenly--without warning--and no one will be able to explain how or why it happened" (back cover excerpt). In AMERICA'S LAST CALL, ON THE BRINK OF A FINANCIAL HOLOCAUST (hereafter, ALC) (Lindale, Texas: Wilkerson Trust Publications, 1998), the seer-author examines the writings of the Old Testament to make the case that Israel and Judah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and even the antediluvians of Noah's day all evidenced a common condition as the prelude to their respective destructions. The final common condition that preceded God's destructive judgment upon these civilizations was "economic prosperity," or at least a "false prosperity," that would shortly give way to disaster. According to the seer, this condition has existed in the United States for ten years now and is due to give way at any time. His insight may come as a shocking and unanticipated surprise to many Chrisitan readers who so often interpret material abundance, and prosperity in general, as a sign of God's unmixed blessing and sanctioned approval of them personally and our socitey at large. This kind of incredulous and unbelieving response, the seer argues, is exactly the same response that God's "chosen people" of Israel and Judah gave to the prophets that God had sent to warn them concerning their respective destructions. Many Christians and their pastors will find chapter eight ("Misreading the Times") especially unsettling because the warning of calamitous upheaval and reversal of personal or national fortune is so nearly unthinkable especially to those who may have begun to enjoy and rely upon the fruits of their earthly abundance more than is appropriate for a child of God destined for heaven. The prose of ALC is easily read and is composed in the seer's usually compelling style. I highly recommend ALC be read by everyone concerned about the "economic signs of our times," and how they relate to God's judgment upon the United States. David Wilkerson, unlike some reviewers of this book, and one in particular, get a little testy with his gloom and doom scenarios, but it isn't like he wants to do this. Like I've said in another review, if you don't like it, E-mail him, or attend his services at Times Square Church in New York City. Martinezboy obviously thought that a few "Holy Ghost stock tips or trader buys" might be more in line with what he was looking for, but maybe he ought to get his priorities in order. A prophet is not supposed to make you feel good. Examine the Scriptures and see if the prophets spoke to make you feel like a million bucks. Not John the Baptist, not Isaiah, not Jeremiah, and not the others. Read this with a discerning heart. It is powerful stuff, and unlike an earlier reviewer...I say buy this book and the Cross and the Switchblade, but don't fall in love with America's stock market or economy. "We seek a city to come. This earth is not our home." Is that negative thinking? Check out the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life.

I have no doubt that the Lord is speaking to us through this book. I can only pray that we have ears to hear. We have received a host of blessings in this nation, and have become so enamored by our prosperity and abundance that our hearts have grown cold to the things of God. Lord forgive us. I am grateful for faithful men of God like Pr. Wilkerson, who refuse to lie to us and tell us that salvation's enough - just eat, drink, be merry and mention my Son to your neighbors every now and then. We have been bought for a price, and we are no longer our own. The blood of Christ wasn't shed so we could live apathetically and plead it over our lukewarm efforts. It was poured out to restore us in our relationship with God, and to gain back our authority over the enemy. I pray a faithful remnant heeds the warnings in this book, rises to it's feet, and using our authority in Christ, valiantly fights the end-times battle in the heavenlies!

God has always been consistent in dealing with his people(i.e.,the church, his body) and with man in general. He never changes. Heremains the same. He cannot compromise holiness or the truth. This is why I totally agree with the author. America has crossed the line. God will judge. We don't need to look outside the boundaries of His church. God created us to be intimate with Him. Sadly, the strength of many christians is found outside of an intimate relationship with Him. Ministries are headed by professionals who know the works and not by someone who is driven to his knees for every direction and provision and enablement. Immorality has crept in the church. What's more frightening is the indifference for people without Christ. The love of His word (the absolute truth) is fading. Will a true lover of Jesus not grieve over what is seen in our homes, churches and community today? Many Christians, like the unbelievers, are driven, yes, but not for more of Jesus but for self-gain. True, the blood of Jesus covers a multitude of sins but isn't this true only for those who are truly repentant? and for those whose longing is that Christ may be formed in them? We have a multitude of reasons to rejoice. Our God is awesome. That is reason enough to last for eternity. But we must grieve for what grieves the heart of Jesus. Gloom and doom? Maybe. If we are established in our knowledge of Him we have nothing to fear. He is greater than anything that comes our way. He reigns supreme. He has promised to keep us because He loves us. I recommend that you buy this book. It drove me to my knees as I saw His holiness and His unfathomable longing for an intimate love relationship with me.
