Beautiful story

Very well written.

Great book.

It was a great book and a real eye opener in a lot of ways. It has an interesting twist since the mom knows the cartel guy. I loved it and it was a great read.

Horribly boring and too "political"

This book was so "highly recommended" by people that I accepted the hype & bought it. It's HORRIBLE. I hate it, hate it, hate it. Did I mention I hate it? Very slow read, boring as heck. I found it too "political" with unsettling undertones & felt like a sheep being led to slaughter... as though the author was trying to send a subliminal message via this book. Please just STOP. That was several hours I'll never be able to get back again. I felt physically exhausted after finishing it. Don't buy it. Save yourself.

"American Dirt" is on Oprah's Book Club -

I liked this book very much. I had a hard time putting it down. My heart was with the migrants trying to make a better life for themselves. This book is about parental love - the love Lydia has for her eight year old son, trying to flee from the drug cartels. I was with them every step of the way. One author said that the book "makes us all live and breathe the refugee story". It is a must read and I most likely will re-read it again.

Boring!

I couldn't get thru the first 100 pages without finding something else to do to distract me from my boredom.

A narco novela

It read as a cheap narco novela romanticizing cartels and the narco culture. Full of harmful and overplayed stereotypes of Mexican culture. If you have even an ounce of respect for Mexican or Latin culture in general please skip this book.

Cheap thriller masqueraded as social justice lit

The author failed to captured the Mexican community. Things such as Mexican pastries are incorrectly described. If you’re in for a cheap thriller this is for you.
