Jeanine Cummins's American Dirt, the #1 New York Times bestseller and Oprah Book Club pick that has sold over three million copies
Lydia lives in Acapulco. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while cracks are beginning to show in Acapulco because of the cartels, Lydia's life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. But after her husband's tell-all profile of the newest drug lord is published, none of their lives will ever be the same. Forced to flee, Lydia and Luca find themselves joining the countless people trying to reach the United States. Lydia soon sees that everyone is running from something. But what exactly are they running to?American Dirt has stuck with me ever since I read it. I acclaim it to be one of the very best books I've ever read, and I've read thousands! I tell my sister all the time she needs to read it. I found it very interesting, well-written, and I couldn't put it down.

It was a great book and a real eye opener in a lot of ways. It has an interesting twist since the mom knows the cartel guy. I loved it and it was a great read.

I found it too "political" with unsettling undertones & felt like a sheep being led to slaughter... as though the author was trying to send a subliminal message via this book. Please just STOP. That was several hours I'll never be able to...

This book is about parental love - the love Lydia has for her eight year old son, trying to flee from the drug cartels. I was with them every step of the way. One author said that the book "makes us all live and breathe the refugee story". It is a must read and I most likely will...
