America, Past and Present

America: Past and Present is a three volume series designed to introduce younger students and those struggling with reading to American history. This is the first volume, covering the period of discovery by Europeans to western expansion. The book is arranged into units including primary sources (scaled to the level of younger readers), reading comprehension exercises, and maps. As a teacher of students with learning disabilities and those struggling with English as a second language, I found this book very useful in presenting American history in a non-intimidating fashion.
